To all the fish experts out there, I would like to get your opinion on something. I have a 40 breeder tank with 7 fish, including a filamented wrasse and a cherub angel. All fish get along fine except for these two.
The filamented wrasse is a model citizen, and the cherub used to be one as well, until an incident. One day I found the wrasse swimming around in my coast to coast overflow, so I tried to scoop him back into the main tank area. I suppose he wast frightened because he jumped and landed on the floor. I immediately gently put him back, and he darted for cover right away. After this happened, the cherub came over and was sort of nudging him. I thought this was cute because I thought he was trying to revive/wake him up because at this point I did not know if he was going to survive or not.
A month later my wrasse is doing fine, eating well, but the two exhibit different behavior. The cherub constantly chases the wrasse who is much bigger around the tank. The wrasse will sometimes flash him and chase him in return, but most of the time he flees for cover. I am concerned that he is very stressed from the cherub. Should I take the cherub out of the tank? Is this a lot of stress for the wrasse?
On what may or may not be a related note, after the jump, the wrasse will also sort of dart and stop abruptly constantly now. He doesn't seem to swim as gracefully as before.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
