accidental kalkwasser overdose need help

I have used 3TBS/liter in a drip with no ill effects. I've also used a massive paste to get rid of aptasia. I think you'd have to REALLY miss measure to have too much. I think adding it all at once will hurt more than adding too much if you're dripping in a 75 gal.

WOW! I thought you're only supposed to use a teaspoon per gallon of RO? That's all I'm using anyway.

Also make sure you let it settle out first. You don't want to use it as soon as you mix it.

I've messed up more than once with my tank. Are you amazed I have anything living and growing? 1 tsp/gal is the recommended dose and that's what I drip now at night to keep my pH stable.

How are you guys dosing this? IMO you cannot add too much Kalk to your mix. You can add too much mix water to your tank though. You are only supposed to dose the clear part after it is mixed and settled.

That is a great link.

I turned my tank completely white one time and had no bad side affects, course i didnt have SPS at the time. I should have taken a pic, everything was covered in pickiling lime.

For mixing Kalk for top off I just dump some lime in the 5 gallon RO jug, add some vinegar, let it settle, and start the drip.

I have run a whole 5 gallon jug into my 55 gallon in less than 1 hours before. I had to do several large water changes and add vinegar to get the pH back. Be very careful when you are changing pH as any wrong move can cause Calcium precipitation and that will crash your water chemistry.

well here is the damages. We think we lost our plate coral(almost sure of it) It is mostly white with a few brown spots and the purple and white lips are gone. if I am wrong let me know. and one of my anenomes lost 75% of its tenticals.

I started the hobby out using Kalk and two part. My alk/calc always fluctuated a bit and was always hard to keep high enough and my colors were bleh. I also had to clean my pumps fairly regularly. I didn't know any better and figured this was relatively normal.

About a year ago I stopped using kalk at all. My alk/calc more or less stopped fluctuating (no change in dosage 2 part dosage). My colors started to come in quite a bit stronger and I now rarely have to clean my pumps.

I was probably just driving the parameters to a point that I was continually seeing precipitation thus making parameters flucuate and as we know SPS aren't fond of a lack of stability. This would have been difficult to detect with test kits because they were always within normal range *shrug*.

After using kalk a few months in my 120g which i thought kept me from dosing more, I stopped and dosing hasnt changed. In fact the tank looks much better and no more kalk to deal with. Just my experience.
