I am getting a bta this friday evening fro
m a friend whose bta split about a month ago.
Once i get home i will be drip acclimatising for about 2 hours.
my question is that once it is ready to enter the tank , the lights will have gone out.
Therefore should i force the lights to stay on longer or will it be alright entering the tank in the dark.

Lights don't need to be on. If his salinity matches yours, i would say to drip for 30 mins or so. Just float the bag so the temps match. I am not a fan of long drips.

Thanks about the lights advice.
will this mean the animal will stay put over night or could he still move about.
i normally drip long because my lfs salinity is always quite a way off mine.
coming from a fellow reefer his salinity should be alot closer so will drip less hopefully.

make sure you put the nem into a bowl of some kind inside your acclimation bucket...otherwise its hard to pick them up and transfer it without damaging it, with a bowl it will be submerged the whole time you transfer it to your tank, you just put the bowl in your tank and then take the nem and place it...

Thanks guys.
am i right in thinking the 2 powerheads i have in my tank that i will need to put sponge on the intake area and leave the outflow area alone.

I picked one up yesterday and just placed the bag opened in my tank to temp acclimate for like 10 minutes. Then poured 3/4 of the water out and continuously added water from my tank to the bag every three to five minutes or so. Once the bag was about full, I emptied it out, grabbed the nem and put it in the place i liked. It moved a bit, planted itself, and inflated pretty nicely. The LFS water was about the same salinity as mine so that helped.

+2

Btas love flow...during transport they release a lot of waste/toxins. They don't do well swimming in their own filth. So as soon as I can get them in my cleaner tank water the better. Then add a good amount of flow and they perk up really quick...it washes away all their filth.

Thanks guys.

Cover the ENTIRE powerhead. They can/will get into any crevice they can, even the ouput side.

would covering be a temporary measure until the animal settles or would this have to be permanemt.
also is tight netting sufficient as this would be less ugly.

All the time. You never know when they will want to find a new spot. Tight netting should work. I use black pantyhose.
