Acclimating a rose tip anemone

I bought a rose tip yesterday and he seemed to to be fine and loooking healthy . My Clarkii started hosing him right off the bat. Today, He's moved behind a rock and is looking really deflated. Is he just acclimating himself? I was told to leave him alone for a few days and eventually he'll come up...any suggestions?

thx.

What kind of acclimation did you do before you put the anemone in your tank? How's your water quality? Did you pull him out of the bag while he was inflated?

Not being fully open isn't terribly unusual, but "really" deflated doesn't sound very good.

I did a hardcore acclimation when I got mine, but that's because I bought a ton of stuff that day so the effort wasn't just for one critter. I took my 5g fish bucket, put all the corals, shrimp, etc I bought that day in it with the water from the store. I added a minijet and a small thermometer. I then started slowly, over the course of a couple hours, adding water from the tank he went into. All in all there was prob 2g of store water to which I added about 2g of tank water. Then I took most of that mixed water out and slowly added another gallon or so of tank water. Mine opened right up once he walked to a spot he liked and has been that way for about 2 weeks now.
I don't think that all that is necessary (and like I said, I only did it because of the quantity I got and it was time for a water change anyway). It does show that they will open up quickly if acclimated slowly though. I'd say the key is whether his tentacles are poking out when he is balled up. If so, he is just curled up. If they are REALLY bad off, all you will see is their outer covering and all the tentacles will be curled inside. That's just my experience with a previous bubble tip talking though.

Well it may just have expelled waste and that's why it's deflated. I wouldn't worry too much, but keep an eye on it nonetheless.

yeah, take some time to watch it before you freak out. I have both a rose and a green bta and they regularly will deflate (to ~1" diameter when ~5" is normal) and later return to full size. I'd say usually the cycle takes about 6 hours, though I dont pay too close attention. I wouldnt worry about it being balled up as nosferatu51 describes unless its balled up *and* deflated. I catch my green bta in a big puffy *inflated* ball (tentacles inside and all) about once a week.

Thanks guys, I left him for one whole day and he opened up but He wasn't getting any light. Since he was only attached to the wall I was able to get him out from the back. I ended up setting him on the sand where he is now nicley attached to my LR. The only thing now is that he's stinging my zoo colony...

Happy Friday...

Another thing I wold do that it seems no one has mentioned is remove the clarkii or cover the anenome somewhat so he can not bother it. You need to let the anenome aclimate to your system before allowing the clown fish in or he ould possibly Love your anenome to death. This happened with my first RBTA. I let it aclimate well but my tomato clown would not leave it alone so it could get used to the system. He kept moving and hiding until finallt it died. Also, posting some pics if possible will help us in letting you know if there is a problem with yours. Good Luck...
