Acclimating BTA to light

Hi all,

I bought a bubble tip anemone on Saturday (captive clone), and from what I can tell, it seems like it does not like much light at all. I have OceanRevive Arctic T247 LEDs. I thought I was acclimating it slowly to the light, but judging by its behavior, I must not be. See below:


Sat
blues @ 20%
whites @ 0%
BTA moved around for a while and settled nicely on a rock at mid level

Sun:
increased whites to 5%
BTA moved to underside of the rock, deep in a crevice

Mon
decreased whites back to 0%
BTA moved out of crevice, expanded okay, still on underside of rock

Tues
increased whites to 1%
BTA moved completely out of sight

Wed
decreased whites back to 0%
BTA reappeared on underside of the rock, expanded okay again


I know this isn't definitive evidence that it's reacting to the light, but it certainly seems like a likely assumption.

Prior to getting the BTA, I ran my lights at B:40%/W:25%.

My ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are all 0. I didn't check calcium and alkalinity, but they were this a week ago: Calcium=410 ppm / Alkalinity=3.5 meq/L. pH is 8.1, salinity is 1.025. Tank is 29g.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Will I ever be able to turn my whites back on? When?

Just let it be for now and watch it to see how it does in the coming days. I would also slowly start ramping the lights back up to where you had them over the course of a week or so and go from there. They are know to walk and hide for a little bit so I would not worry to much or try to move it to your liking because it might. Be it's liking and just stress it more. Good luck keep us posted

I don't know how to slowly ramp the lights off... that's what I thought I was doing, but it responded by hiding.

Turn them back on now. The BTA will find a spot where it likes the flow and light. If you keep changing the conditions you're just working against yourself.

BTAs are pretty much bullet proof but they always take a week or 2 to settle in. What you're assuming is a reaction to the light is simply a reaction to a completely new environment. Keep the environment stable and be patient.

I'm anticipating to see it disappear... how long is normal for it to go unseen?

It depends on the bta some will hide for a few days, a week or weeks. It will come out to the light when it is ready.

Just so it 5% per day. The BTA will (should) find a suitable place.

Just wanted to follow up on this...

I started ramping up my whites, and my BTA finally emerged a few days after my original post. And he hasn't moved since.
