acclimating large eels

Depends on how large. My bite happy dragon was pushing 3' when it arrived and it was not staying in a bucket. I dumped it into a net over a garbage can. It went directly into the tank.

My fimby was about 1'. I floated it, it shot out of the bag as soon as I opened it. Luckily it landed on the glass top and then fell into the tank.

My moringas were shipped in bags inside of large plastic jars which made floating and acclimating easy. I floated the jars, acclimated the water. Pulled the bags out of the jars, eel stayed in. Put the jars back in the tank and moringas swam out. There was never a chance of being bit, it was great.

I acclimated my tesselata eel in a bucket, but at the time he was only 13" so it wasnt hard to do. A larger, 3' tesselata would be another story. I'm sure it would immediately launch out of the bucket and try to squirm across the floor. I'd be using something like a large tote or a 30g trash can to acclimate a larger eel.

I used a 5gal bucket to drip acclimate for my 14" Dragon eel and all was smooth. Used a very large net and he went in with no problems.

Are you getting an eel soon?

im in the planning phase of converting my 75 reef into a eel tank and wanted to know if the eel is on the large size what would the best way to acclimate
