Acclimating to new MH

I just got 3 Lumem Max Elite reflectors with SE 250w 20k Radiums on Galaxy ballasts to replace my 250w Sunpod. I had my Sunpod running 10 hours/day. What would be the safest way to acclimate my corals to the new light? Someone at a lfs said to start at 3 hours/day for the first week, then add another hour every week after that. Does that sound good? It just doesn't seem like enough light to me.

i wouldnt think you would have to really acclimate you were using mh's before....if you want to i would at least go 6hrs to begin...

Yeah I didn't really think so either, but there is a pretty considerable difference in light output.

I personally don't like cutting back on the photo-period, instead I prefer to use window screening b/t the tank and the lights -- can use egg create to support the screening. I would use 3 layers and remove a layer each week.

The reason I prefer doing it that way...... an example. In the summertime I could get sun for the first time, even if I am out outside for only an hour I could still get a sun burn --- akin to using a shorter photo-period. However if I use sun screen I will be fine -- akin to using the screening.
