I just got my new lights in and need help on acclimating the corals, i have a 150 gallon tanks that has been running on weak lights for two weeks, i moved all my sps and lps down to the sand, how long do i leave the lights on for and when do i move them up? I have a tall tanks and have 2 250w 20k bulbs, i am running luminex reflectors radium bulbs and galx ballast.

Thanks,

It's more of an issue with the intensity of the lights then the photoperiod as you have adressed by moving the corals down from the lights.
Another method if possible is to move the lights farther away from the surface to the tank.

To answer your questions---move them up gradually every 5 days but keep the lights on for the same photoperiod as before

Okay ill leave them on the same time and move them up every week, Thanks!

I personally am a fan of leaving the height and photo-period of the lights alone. Instead, I place egg create b/t the tank and the lights, then place some layers (( usually 3 )) of window screening on top of the egg create. Remove a layer each week.

I have tried raising the lights, and shortening the photo-period, and still had issues. Never had issues using window screening.

Think of it this way -- its been a long winter and you haven't gone outside much. Then comes summer, even if you go outside for an hour you will get sun-burnt (( akin to using a shorter photo-period )), but if you go out with sun skin (( akin to using screening )) you won't.
