Achilies Tang

Hello everyone, just a quick question about my Achilies Tang's diet. This Tang only seems to like to eat alge sheets and not much else. He nibbles at the live alge and live rock in the tank but eats about one whole sheet a day. I was just wondering if he is getting all the nutrients he needs with this limited diet? Is there anything else is I should be feeding him?

Mine is not picky. He eats flake, brine, and nori. If you are offering other foods and he's not eating them, I'd say he knows whats best :) Good luck with such a stunning fish

Even though their diet consists mainly of algae type foods, you need to really try to get him on a varied diet. Keep feeding the green stuff like you're doing, try some formula two flakes and pellets and also try to mix in some frozen mysis and prime reef. These are just a few of the things my powder blue loves. Even though they are different fish, the PBT is almost as tough to keep.

Thanks for the suggestions I'll try to get him to eat some flake or mysis but he just doesnt seem to be interested in any food floating in the water only algae that is attached to something.

I have had him for about 4 months, he seems to be doing fine , he is big and plump and fairly hardy. The reason I ask about the diet is everytime I try to introduce him into my display tank, within 5 days he develops Ich. He has survied the infection 3 times now but he lives most of his time in the QT. I just thought maybe I was leaving something out of his diet that would help him fight off this parisite.
