Achilles Hybrid

If this hobby has taught me anything it is that nothing good happens quickly. Patience, patience............ Fish thrive in mature, balanced tanks. So many fish are lost in QT because these tanks are not.

So are you saying you leave your QT up all the time?

So are you saying you leave your QT up all the time?

No. Just have it fully cycling and stocked with live rock BEFORE you buy any livestock. It increases your odds tenfold. (in a perfect world, yes. A continously running QT would be best.)

I have a 55g with an overflow that I will cycle with my DT waste way before I buy a fish. Bottom line I guess is "do not buy a fish unless you are prepared to QT it". I know it is not fully matured but I like to keep my QT running 2 months prior to a new fish.

Hey Bill - I thought when we talked I said to put in Amquel or Prime as a detoxifier for the ammonia. I have never heard of this.

In addition, yes keeping the QT up 365 is preferred if possible. My 2x55g QT are up all the time and have been so for a couple of years.

My suggestion would be to remove all 30g of water with the ammonia in it and replace with your tank water and keep an eye on it.

Just ad important ad ammonia is Nitrites. If you are showing any nitrites you are cycling.

I start up my QT fresh each time I need it and always just use Seachem's Stability....never had any ammonia issues....works great!

"Stability® will rapidly and safely establish the aquarium biofilter in freshwater and marine systems, thereby preventing the #1 cause of fish death: "new tank syndrome". Stability® is formulated specifically for the aquarium and contains a synergistic blend of aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative bacteria which facilitate the breakdown of waste organics, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Unlike competing products, the bacteria employed by Stability® are non-sulfur fixing and will not produce toxic hydrogen sulfide. Stability® is completely harmless to all aquatic organisms as well as aquatic plants, thus there is no danger of over use. Stability® is the culmination of nearly a decade of research and development and represents the current state of the art in natural biological management.

Sizes: 50 mL, 100 mL, 250 mL, 500 mL, 2 L, 4 L, 20 L

Why It's Different
Illustration of Stability'sâ„¢ bacteria on biofiltration material. stability contains a synergistic blend of aerobic, anaerobic, and facultative bacteria
The bacteria used in competing products are inherently unstable. The conditions necessary for their growth and development fall into a very narrow range of temperatures, pH, organic loads, etc. When any of these parameters are not strictly within the proper range, the bacterial culture quickly crashes and dies. Stability® does not contain any of the aforementioned bacteria.

The bacteria strains in Stability® have been in development for over a decade. The necessary conditions for growth of our bacterial strains encompass a very broad range. When other bacteria begin to die off (usually from high organic loads caused by the undetected death of an organism), Stability® simply works harder and grows faster! The strains function in fresh or saltwater. Stability® contains both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, a blend found in no other product. Additionally, Stability® contains facultative bacterial strains which are able to adapt to either aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The bacteria in Stability® are non-sulfur fixing, another innovation in the industry. Most other bacterial supplements will form toxic hydrogen sulfide under the proper conditions. Stability® will not, ever."

Hi Chris,

Yes we did talk....This was one of my brilliant ideas.....My thought was....I was told to add food every so often was to keep the bacteria alive. Bacteria consumes the ammonia from the fish waste. So I figured instead of adding food I would just add some ammonia....I am still thinking this idea will work but for some reason the bacteria is not strong enough to consume the ammonia. I added the 2 filter pads to the main tank that I will transfer over when the fish arrives. Hopefully I have another week. I have a bottle of Prime and will be getting a bottle of Stability to help aid in whatever issues may arrise.....Along with 50 gallons of fresh saltwater.

First time ordering from here....

I am also very interested in the achilles hybrid... Have you seen pics of it before you bought it? Because I know someone in the mantis forum bought a peacock mantis from this site, the owner claimed he bred and raised them (wich is close to impossible btw). But instead of a peacock, they got something way different and it is hard to believe that a peacock 'breeder' would make such a huge mistake.

No did not see a picture. I am on a waiting list and if they get one in the next 3 weeks its mine. Hopefully they don't get it for the full 3 weeks. Give the QT more time to run.
