Achilles Tang and Leopard Wrasse Help

I've recently bought a Achilles Tang and a Leopard Wrasse on Liveaquaria a few days ago. When they arrived, I acclimated them for about 3 hours. I don't have a quarantine tank (I know I should have one) and I placed them both in the display tank.

The first day everything was fine, I had both fish in a acclimation box, to let my existing tangs and wrasse get used to them. I also kept the light off for the rest of the day. The next day, the wrasse was gone (probably in the sand) and the Achilles tang didn't eat. Then the Achilles tang passed away suddenly. Just stopped swimming, laid down and died. Two day later the wrasse did the same thing.

Liveaquaria was really helpful and credited my account, no questions asked. I'm getting them reshipped in a couple of weeks and I was wondering how can I get them to start eating and what caused them to die all of a sudden.

I've also read the Achilles tang primer and I'm half way through with the leopard wrasses.

not the easiest fish to care for, especially without a qt. don't be surprised if you have the same problem with the replacement fish. I would try to put the order on hold or cancel it until you can get a qt set up, or try more hardy fish.

you're playing with fire not qt an Achilles, not only for parasites but getting it eating without other fish to "fight" with. set up a qt tank before trying again!!! if you're buying a $200 + fish you should be able to afford a qt set-up!

Thank you for the replies. About how big of a tank should I get for a quarantine. How would you recommend me to quarantine them. There are so many different methods, I don't know what to do.

The Achilles tang is the last fish I want for my tank, since thy are my favorite. I guess I just felt to confident in buying these two difficult fish, since I have a moorish idol, cleaner wrasse and a blue star leopard wrasse all in my tank for over a year. I may have just been lucky with them.

I've never had a problem getting an Achilles to eat. Always start eating spirulina brine and then develop from there.

I do, however, ALWAYS have a problem with disease. QTing an Achilles does little good if all the other fish in your tank aren't. They are VERY disease prone. Good luck.
