Achilles tang in a 200g

What are peoples thoughts on keeping an Achilles in a ~200g with dimensions of 50" L x 36" D x 25" H.

I have read minimum tank sizes requirements ranging from 75 gallons to 180 gallons. I always thought these guys needed allot of room or at least some longer runs.

Just curious before i even think about going down this path.

I'm pretty sure that most people would agree whilst the amount of gallons is enough its the length of the tank that is what makes the biggest difference. For a full size achilles I'd think it's a 6' minimum, and 50" just isn't big enough for an adult. If you've seen one in person you'd understand why, they are a very active fish that likes a lot of swimming room.

We have ours in a 6 ft tank right now which I thought would be more then sufficient...I now feel differently. Our only saving grace is in 6 months we move into our house in which our 8 ft tank will be waiting. These fish swim more then anything i've ever seen and I feel length for an achilles is definitely the biggest factor. My purple tang just sits there and watches the achilles go back and forth, makes me tired watching him ;-)

Yep this was my thought I definitely shouldn't try it. My buddy has a pretty large achilles the size of a small dinner plate in a 450 and he definitely owns that tank. I guess I already knew the answer to my own question, but some times you just hope someone else will help you justify it. Thanks for the replies.

how big is yours right now? I've had mines about a yr in a 5ft tank. About 5" now. I try to keep minimal rockwork, so they can weave around.

At least it'll take a couple of more years for mines it to get to 7". I'll have an upgrade by then..

I have always loved the Achilles ever since I saw one. I am building out a 10' 300 gallon tank and would love to get one. I heard they are a bit harder to keep. Does anyone have them with a Sohal Tang?

not all achilles are the same i have one in a 8ft 300 for 7 months now he doesn't even use the whole tank witch is odd to me because i had other achilles in the past that never stood still this one is very relaxed & just hovers around in the tank like he owns it but before i got him he was in another members tank for over 3 years what was even more odd was that the tank he was in was a 76 bow with plenty of rock very little room to swim in and on top of that living with ich i also forgot to mention he is 5 inch's big
