Got an AT that arrived today from DD he was eating great, eating shrimp and seaweed seemed alright. I did a 2 gallon water change in 29 gallon tank. He has been breathing heavy and going NUTS, swimming haphazardly and side to side, he seems like something is wrong, is this normal or? His color is light as well so I know he is stressed, should I take the marine beta thats in QT with him out?

There is no ammonia, temp 80 even, SG 1.024, PH 8.04, I dont know what else can affect the fish. No stray voltage, can I be starving them of oxygen? I added a power head half in half out the water to add some oxygen to the water. I hope he is alright.

I have had my achilles tang for about 4 years now. He flashes and chases every fish in my 8 foot aquarium. He always is breathing very rapidly and moving around very fast. At first I thought there was something wrong with him...but its just his personality.

i would remove the marine betta personally. he may not like the shape or coloration.

Turn the lights off and stop messing with the tank. Think about the fish for a min, he was netted, bagged and put in a box where it is pitch black and then was thrown around on a plane and a truck for 16 hrs or more before he arrived at your house. He needs time to adjust

+1 he needs time to adjust. It can take a day or 2 for them to find their PVC and feel secure, so in the meantime keep the lights off and let him settle in. When new fish act overly stressed, I put a towel over the front of the qt to keep them focused on their surroundings instead of me. Gl

Thank you for the advise! Yeah It just really scared me he seemed way out of place. Anyways last night that is what I did I put a towel over the tank and let him be until this morning about 8am I turned the light on, he didn't seem startled at all, seemed way more comfortable with his surroundings. I fed him a mix of brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and spirulana, he ate a good amount, mostly brine shrimp. I also put a new piece of seaweed on a clip for him as well as a 2 gallon water change to suck up the stuff that had settled on the bottom. He didn't seem to care to much that my hand was in the tank when doing the water change. After that I left him alone and I wont be back until later this evening, I told my GF to feed him before she leaves for work around noon.
