Achilles Tang

i have an achilles tang that i put in my quarantine tank for a few weeks and plan to leave him in there for the rest of the month. Do you think this is neccesary? He would occaisionally have some ich attached to him, but the blue face in the same qt tank has no ich. Did i mention that i am currently doing hypo on them? no. well ya now i did. Anyways does anyone out there think 1 month of quarantining is neccesary for the achilles tang to be restored to full health? I've heard that people just put there fish in the main tank so the amount of stress caused in minimized. Any adice is appreciated. May the force be with you all!!!!!:strooper: :strooper: :strooper: :strooper: :strooper: :strooper: :

If you have it in quarintine, and have seen Ick I wouldn't remove it from Quarintine until it had been Ick free for 6 weeks.
And since you have seen Ick on the Achillies I would not take the Blue face out either. That would just be asking to introduce Ick to your main tank.

Yeah, as stated above even though your blue face does not show any sign of ick chances are that he has it anyway from beign housed in the same tank. Be patient and let the parasite run its course. You can feed them ginger to help along with the quarantine process in getting rid of the ick.

I read somewhere that it should be a minimal of 5 weeks from the time you "don't" visabally see the parasite on the fish and or from the time they have stopped scratching.

my achilles woulc have ich from time to time, but now the blue face was this big white spot near those fins at the front of the fish that look like arms. Might that just be a wound inflicted by the achilles or might that be a parasite?

It is a virus, there seems to be no cure for it. I have had great succes in feeding foods with High vitamin C as well as soaking foods in HUFA products that are high in Vitamin c such as Vita Fish. Also make sure you do regular water changes as this has also has a cause to spreading it from fish to fish.

i think kent marine sells a product with a high level of vitamin c in it. it is on drfostersmith.com
check it out

isnt the point of quarantine to separate the sick animals. You are complicating and elongating the process by having both animals in the same qt. I know that setting up another qt is expensive, but those are not cheap fish anyway. And I know that personally I couldnt wait to have those 2 beauties in the tank!
