Achilles Tang

Don't know, I just really want them. Pacific Reef in Anaheim and an archiles tang is like a 20 gallon and they said it had been in there for a month. It was a good 4" and they were only asking $40. I wanted it really bad. I have a 65 Gallon do you think that is too small?

what other fish do you have.... you could have it for a while but you will eventually have to sell it as it will outgrow your tank....

Achilles Tang's are probably one of the most energetic tangs available, they need lots of space and flow. I would say a 65 gallon is too small, even for a juvenile Achiles. They stress out really easily, even more so than Powder Blues, and I think lack of space can be a big contributor to that.

Having said all that, they are georgeous fish so I understand the temptation, just trying to help you understand the risk...

Hope that helps...

Many of you know I am a LFS and run some Tank maintenance. I have kept many types of tangs successfully in all sizes of tanks.

That being said I donot buy Achilles Tangs. I have tried them about a dozen times in my own tanks and in clients tanks. Everytime has been unsuccessful. 6 months tops and the last month of life was pathetic for the little guy.

I am not saying they are impossible or anyhing. Just an extremmely difficult fish to care for. I personally donot buy them and will only bring them in for a customer if they request it and still want it after telling them how poorly I have personally done with them.

Side note... maybe it's because they are black so it is easily noticed, but they seem to catch ich extremely easy and the cases always seem severe
