Acro crabs - Any interest?

Hello,

I was wondering if you've ever considered selling the little bandit acro crabs. I know personally, I, along with several locals, would love to get our hands on some. Many people buy acro frags cultured, so never receive any crabs with them. Or some of us had to treat our tanks with interceptor, and no longer have any crabs :o

I've also been to the wholesalers before and seen the cheap and/or dying acros in the sale bins, with acro crabs on them, so they're available to collect, if someone takes the time.

Just an idea :)

SDguy,

Thank you for your post. We are checking with our Aquaculture Coral & Marine Life Facility regarding the availability of the Acropora Crabs. We will post the information as soon as we have that available for you.

SDguy,

Thank you for your post. We have had numerous requests for Acropora Crabs and we are working to encourage some exporters and wholesalers to offer these for sale. Unfortunately, the time it would take to successfully harvest these from wild Acropora colonies is not cost effective. This is the reason we do not see them available. We will post back if and when we are successful in obtaining these.

Well please be sure to convey to collectors that we do not want these little guys at the expense on breaking apart perfectly healthy acropora colonies. Yikes! I was thinking more from already imported pieces, especially those that may be failing or unsellable, otherwise.

Peter,
No worries, the last thing that any of us would like to see or encourage for that matter is damaging Acropora coral heads in order to harvest Trapezia spp..

Responsible collection practices and proper post harvest handling, holding and transport are of the utmost importance to all of us here at Drs. Foster and Smith, as we firmly believe in supporting collectors, exporters, and importers that have the same goals as ourselves.

I was trying to illuminate the difficulties in harvesting these tiny coral crabs from wild colonies would be far too intensive for it to be a viable animal available week in and week out from a good overseas supplier. Explaining that we would be interested in obtaining these crabs that remained in the holding tanks after pack out, or when the harvest is taken to the holding facilities on the other hand is the idea.

I will continue to try and find responsible ways to offer Trapezia spp. in the near future.

I too would be interested if these ever became available. Thanks in advance for considering the possibility.
