acro problem

I have a 29 gallon SPS tank.
On one of my small colonies (I think tenuous but not positive), I noticed the tips of each branch looked as though it had what I would compare to a blister on a person's finger. I am running 4 vho's (1 actinic white & 3 actinic blue) for 10 hours/day and one 250 watt halide for 8 hours per day. I have never seen this before. No signs of RTN or STN are visible. When I touched the tip of one of the branches it felt goey. Kind of like what a small dot of super glue gel would feel like under water before it completely dries but after it gets to the point were it won't stick to your finger. It felt as though if I wanted to I could just pull the "goey" stuff off. I am sure I could just pull it off or cut the tips off of each branch but I didn't want to do anything before I investigated further. It almost looks like each tip is "swollen". This coral has been in my tank with full polyp extension for about 4 months and no signs of anything but a perfect coral. What could be my problem???

One other question, how long should I run my halide each day?

Check your Magnesium [or have a LFS test it] and check back.

I'll try to dig in my gallery, think I have pics of when something similar happened to me. In that case - went back to normal after a few weeks - no harm done, no problems.

Another reefer suggested it was from Magnesium deficiency - and while that doesn't line up with my experience, it did in his [and getting Mag back to NSW made his problem disappear].

I'd check on the chemistry, check the Magnesium ... and hopefully others will have good ideas :)
