Acro Tenuis Suggestions

I have had a Acro Tenuis for about 1 month and no matter where it is placed in the tank, it has no polyp extension. I have since added other acros and they have PE.

Does anyone have any suggestions on tank placement for this acro? Right now is getting medium flow and is about half way down in the tank (120G 24x24x48). It still has it's color but really does not seem to happy. I just recently remove a Coral Beauty that was tagging it to death basically, but that was on Sunday.
Any thoughts on this?

Thanks

E

Tenius seem to be4 pretty tolerant of many placements and conditions IME. If you just recently removed a pestering fish and everything else looks fine I wouldnt sweat it. Its still probably just flinching and will get over it

Mine is 1/3 from the top under Aquaconnect 14k 250w and in med/high flow. It took about 3 weeks to color up for me and 12 weeks to start growing well. Don't expect much branching or vertical growth until the coral lays down a strong base and encrusts the plug.

Mine is about 7-8" down below 250w DE MH with med-high flow.

I highly suspect that its recovering from the fish picking on it. Try using a flashlight at night to see if it has better PE then. Many times acros will replicate their natural behavior in captivity if they're being pestered by something, which is to retract polyps during the day to prevent predation, and extend them at night when the would-be predators are sleeping.

Mine is about 6-7" below the surface of the water and my lights are 10" of the water. It get loads of flow as well. There is vortech on both sides of it.

Is that just after lights on? I have NEVER seen acro extend their terminal polyps during lighted hours like that.

That was around 5pm if I remember correctly with full lights on. Lights were on since 11am. My tenuis always looks like that 24/7 unless I touch it to trim it back.

same here, the polyps are out so far I cant even see the body anymore

I have a super blue tenius in 3 different spots in my tank; all varying conditions and it thrives in all of them. IME it's one of the toughest SPS there is and all the frags I take do awesome. Mine has great PE 24/7.

If it has good color still and is growing then it's probably fine. Just echoing what flyyguy said, but my money is on the pestering angelfish you had and it's still probably in a bit of a stressed state from the nipping. Leave it be and it should be fine.

Even at tyhe terminal corallites?! WOW!

Here is a picture of the Acro Tenuis that I was talking about. No PE from being picked on by a Coral Beauty.

I agree here! I have 2, one yellow with blue tips and one green. The yellow one has not even branched yet, it is like a 3' wide column, 4 inches high. The only color you see is a slight blue haze behind the polyps! It looks like some kind of soft coral. The green one has it's polyps out all the time, too; just not as packed.

This is the type of PE I would expect to see during the day, where the axial corallite has its polyps withdrawn, while the lateral; corallites have good PE. Almost all my acros look like this, including my tenuis.

The axial corallites are at the tips of the growing ends, and are usually the "colored parts". For whatever reason, I never these polyps extended save when lights are out. Perhaps it is some defense mechanism as they are the most exposed. The radial or lateral corallites are on the "body", and I generally almost always see these polyps extended. I know A. tenuis has a reputation for being "hairy", but the axial PE was mindblowing for being in the middle of the day.
