Acropora efflorescens - Massive & Glowing!!!

I guess I'll be the one to say it but Efflo's are very, very touchy corals. I'd say in wild colonies 1 in 5 actually live. You must have a lot of turbulent flow and high, HIGH light with perfect water conditions. A piece like that I bet is at least 130 dollars to 200, and honestly not worth it unless you can get a money back agreement.

I bought this piece from a lfs, but...this particular piece was in its show tank and not for sale. It had been in one of its employees tanks for over three years and grew from about 3" to over 12". It had been in the store for weeks. I had never seen anything like it anywhere for any price.

I bought it on Sunday and it has already opened up and is extending its polyps and holding its color. My tank is a 300g with 3 250w de MH with t5s. I have 4 tunze's and a closed loop as well. Not to mention an Iwaki 100 for the main pump. There is plenty of flow.

Nice piece, congrats.

If the bulk of it's growth was in an aquarium, that would make me feel much more comfortable. Looks like a beautiful piece.

Good luck.

A thou, huh?

I'll give you $40 for a piece the size of a postage stamp ;)

I paid $40 for a peice the size of a postage stamp, so you do the math...

Pritty cool web Cam, sweet tank allso. Must be nice being over 6' reaching into the tank with no prob. Is that weird doing matinence on the tank knowing that someone could be watching?

As long as I'm not having REEF SEX...look all you want! But when I am having REEF SEX...please avert your eyes.

Tank's are such babe-magnets. The lights make them feel like we're doing it on the moon;)

Anyway, nice find, Richard. Doesn't matter much if it was $150 or $500. That's a smokin' tank-cultured piece.

Thanks Ewan.

Why in the world does it keep saying Error Code like I posted before. Just tried again and it still says the Error Code message. Someone clue me in. Thanks.

After paying that much for a piece (I've paid that much once for a coral, but it was "worth" it :)), I would be sure to frag it a couple times for my best friends to have a backup of it. :)

here is my showpiece.

Nice efflo. It was way overpriced but if you can afford it and its worth it to you, then the price is worth it. I hope it does well for you, which it should since it has been in captivity for so long.

Anyone remember the "$500 efflo"? Now that is one that I think would have been more worth the price. But even that piece didn't even make it through shipping.:(

Not quite 12 inches, but not quite $1000 either.

Mines only about 8 inches:

The shot was just taken about 10 minutes ago under actinics with a flash, so color is a bit off. Its kept under 400 watt Iwasakis now.

Same coral a few months back under 15Ks:

Not my shot, but same coral in a friends tank:

Taken at nigh or under 6.5 or 10Ks.

Chris,
Outstanding corals! Congratulations!

James,
I love the polyp extensions on your piece!

Thanks for sharing guys...Anyone else want to share their pride and joys?
