Acropora Issues

Hi All,

I am new here. I have a SPS/LPS 400L tank.

I lost an acro the other day and now a 2nd one has started doing the same thing. Firs the ends start to go funny then they lose their colour and tissue.


This is the 1st one that since died.

Another acro is now showing similar early signs, see the tips. This coral has very good polyp extension (b4 I picked it up)

Other acros are not showing any simiar signs, this coral was right next to the other one.

KH is stable, Ca has been moving between 380 and 480 slowly over a week or two. Is now stable at 410.

I don't think this is the issue since my tank is full of SPS and none of the other corals show any signs.

Any ideas to what this is?

Looks like AEFW. When in doubt, dip in Bayer. That coral is probably doomed but if my hunch is right, you will give it a fighting chance by dipping in Bayer.

What is Bayer?

The first coral is doomed and in the bin.
Should the 2nd one be ok? I can cut the ends off.

I'm sorry. Missed that you are not in the US, I doubt if you have the Bayer insecticide. If you are interested, check out my thread, "Another option for red bugs." it works for AEFW too.

If I hold the coral up to the glass I can't see any pests on it.
You should be able to see aefw right?

have you basted the coral with water to see if any of the bugs come off or tried dipping them in coralx or other pest dip? If not you should asap

They are like chameleon. They blend in to their host coral, they are usually the pale spots the size of a grain of rice.

Got the coral checked out by lfs and it not this.

I checked my mg for the first time in months since it never changes, well until now. Coroline algae has bleached to white and mg level is around 1100.

Im convinced it is a chemistry issue.

Just caught my fox face nipping at the ends of this coral.
Perhaps that is why the ends are damaged and then this has caused the coral to stress.
