Acrylic adhesive backing glue not coming off...

Hi, so I had some old acrylic sheets and made baffles out of them for my 60 gallon sump for my 150 mixed reef.

So I went to take off the paper backing that's on there to protect it from scratches and I got the paper off but some of the adhesive is still on the acrylic.

Do you think this will leach into the water and cause problems? I'll still try and take off as much as I can using rubbing alcohol but not sure if I can get it all.

thanks!

Try lightly buffing the paper backing with a scrubbing sponge or fine steel wool, just to break the surface of the paper. Then spray it with Goo Gone or some other citrus based adhesive solvent and let it soak in. Don't use any petrol based solvents as they will eat the acrylic. I had to let some old acrylic soak for an hour before the adhesive let go. Then wash it well with soap and water and rinse it a lot. Even soak it in water to get all the soap off.

Good luck.

Ron, I've actually had good luck using lacquer thinner if you wipe it off right after you use it', I have not seen any scoring where the thinner attacked the acrylic. Have you seen it do so?
