I can't say on the 3/8" really. No way for me to know what a distributor will charge for a single sheet. My *guess* is about $6/sq ft but can't say with much certainty

Dunno, never used the stuff, hopefully someone will chime in one way or another.

1) yep, I leave ~1/8" or so to be flush-cut off.
2) protection of the material and allow a place for shimming. Also, cell cast material is never absolutely consistent in thickness so the foam allows for these variations.
3) I make my own solvents/glues from lab grade ingredients. As for commercially available solvents, MCBond is about the best IMO

Not so hip on Chemcast, I've built one tank from it (a 240) which is still holding but I've heard too many horror stories from trusted folks to tinker with it too much. I'm very happy with Polycast and see no reason to stray from that.

can somebody suggest a place in north texas southern oklahoma to get acrylite gp or plexiglas g at a reasonable price i am looking for two 4*8 sheets of ~.375 any help would be appreciated

Changing The Length of an Acrylic Tank

I'm looking at buying a 240 gallon acrylic tank that is 6' long, 23" deep and 30" tall. What I really want is a 5' long tank... Assuming that I'm capable of cutting 1' off the end (square), is there anything special I should know about the construction of acrylic tanks that would make this a bad idea? I realize that the top bracing will no longer be in the correct place - can I just cut out the current brace and glue in a new one in the new center of the tank?
 
If the tank has had water in it. It will be very very difficult to shorten it as you want. The glue job has a very good chance of crazing and failing over time.

Do you have any idea what glue Deltec uses on their equipment when they join acryl and PVC. The answer one always get is that is a flexible glue, but no reference to a brand.

Hi Folks...I am looking for some advice concerning a minor leakage...

I have a custom built sump around 10 months old and it is starting to leak, ever so slightly, from the bottom/sidewall seam.

How would you recommend fixing this leak? Is it possible to repair with water in the sump or will I need to drain and remove the sump to apply some type of acrylic solvent?

That is not a bad price I but you do need to make sure it is good quality material.

What I would do is drain the and remove the sump and then either use weldon 40/42 to create a fillet in the corner, or glue in a 1/4 to 3/8 inch piece in the corner as a gusset to seal it and make sure it is strong enough not to come apart.

Thanks...however the area where the leak is possible coming from I am not able to access internally. Do you think I could wick in some solvent into the previous weld to seal the leaking area? Or would this create further issues? Again...thanks for your feedback.
 
It *could* create further issues, but if this is the *only* way and it would be useless without doing it - then go for it, but be careful.

When glueing two panels, I get pretty nice seems except near the ends. Seems like a few bubbles creep up near the ends of the panel. I am using Plexiglass G.
Is there a way to prevent this?
 
Are you using the pins method? Are you using shims to tighten up the gaps or just allowing the panel to sit flat on the work surface?
 
I have tried both methods but my guess would be placement of the weights on both sides of the MDF jig. My guess is the weights are pressing down too much on the ends.
I am going to try it again and see how it goes for the other panels for my prop tank.

did i read your reply on previous pages right? can you glue pvc to acrylic with weld on 40 or what would you use?
