Running phoenix 250w MH only. I want to add some sort of actinic accents. (Dusk/dawn) Are there any decent led options, maybe something pendent stlye. Tanks a 40 breeder. Prob moving to a 120 by fall.

Any body have some suggestions?

Or dump the MH and switch to some kind of led?

I dont know if they'll work but I'm getting ready to order a RGB strip from amazon. 16ft. of waterproof with remote for 20 bucks. I'll let you know how they work out.

I just ordered them. Theyll be here Monday. Sometime this coming week I'll have them up for sure.

Definitely let us know. I've never cared for the look of actinics only. It's a little too harsh for my taste. With the progress (and price drop) of LED's , I've been hoping something would come along that would allow me to view the tank in a more pleasing light (to me, anyway) in the evenings. This may be just the ticket. I had to remake a canopy for the tank. I've just about finished it up, but it wouldn't be too hard to still incorporate these into the lighting scheme.
If the saltwater environment is too hard on the strips being mounted unprotected, I'd think it wouldn't be too hard to mount the LED strip to a small strip of something (plastic, or even painted wood), and then mount that strip into something like the protective tubes they use for T12 bulbs.

I ordered the same ones I have mounted around my TV . If they prove to fragile for the SW environment in my canopy there's always waterproof ones that come with a silicone coating that I might try but I think the ones I ordered will be fine.

Check out 21ledusa.com...I have a custom blue heavy LED strip from them and it is great. Very decent price and comes with a ramp timer.

So Ive installed the RGB strip and I think it turned out quite well. It looks good with the red too but red doesnt capture hardly at all in the photo. For 17 bucks from Amazon it cant be beat.
