actinics

Just wondering if actinics are basically just used to balance out the other bulbs, cause corals to florecse (I'm sorry I have no idea how to spell that!) and for dusk/dawn applications. Are those their basic uses or do they actually provide something that encourages coral growth?

It is not just for looks but for photosynthesis. 420nm (actinic) is a spectrum used by many corals.
