Adapter problems (6055.240)

Tunze Staff - I am having some bad luck with my two 6055.240 power adapters. In the last 5 days one of them occasionally has a power light and seems to not restart unless it is unplugged for about an hour. The other one has a blinking light and simply will not work at all. Both of them are very hot to the touch so they have been unplugged for fear of something catastophic happening

Both of these adapters were replaced last October by Tunze (thanks :) ) but alas I am back in the same boat, and I'm only 11 months in with the these ones. I am hoping to send these in to either be repaired, refurbished, or replaced.

Please advise me on what should be done. I absolutely love the pumps but these transformers are killing me.

Thank you for your time and attention in this matter

Kurt

Blinking indicates a jammed pump and the power supply is overheating from an overload caused by the pumps. The typical issue will be that the magnet/prop assembly is stuck to the metal shaft by calcium deposits and this is causing a much higher current draw to keep it spinning. This causes the power supply to overheat and blink (overload indicator). This will eventually kill the power supply. The pump needs cleaning, the drive unit should be removed and the pump and drive unit cleaned every 3-6 months.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will go ahead and remove the pumps and give them a good cleaning. Do you think this is also the problem with the other adapter. It's light does not blink but simply doesn't come on or comes on very dim. Eiter way what do you recommend to use as a cleaning solution. I was going to go with 10:1 ratio Water : Muriatic Acid.

Thanks Again

Kurt

Muriatic will destroy the pumps, even 20 or 50 to 1 it will cause the plastic to expand, 50/50 vinegar is what we recommend.

Everything got a good cleaning and seems to be working fine. No more blinking light :) Even the transformer without a light is driving the pump, who knew.

Thank you Roger.

While these modern electronic power supplies don't last forever, you can usually expect 2-3 years out of them at least.
