Add a Kole Tang?

Hello All,

Just looking for some opinions regarding adding a yellow eye (koles) tang to my existing 90 gallon setup. I realize it would be a risk, but I'm wondering if anyone has some experience with two (or more) tangs in a 90 gallon tank and/or in any size system with a Yellow Tang and a Kole's Yellow Eye Tang being kept together. My current stocking includes: Yellow Tang (about 3"), pair of Oscellaris, Pair of Bartlett's Anthias, Three chromis, McCoskers flasher wrasse and an orange spot goby. The tank has a mixed reef on a live rock arch consisting of about 70 lbs. Thus, there is ample open space for swimming.

I am considering adding a 2-2.5" Yellow eye tang to the mix and would like to hear of others experiences. Thanks!

Hi, I would look out for the yellow tang since he is establish and might get aggressive. If you do add another tang, try adding more than the kole to share the aggression that may or may not happen.

If you were to add the kole tang I'd suggest adding one either as big as or bigger than your yellow, preferably bigger. There will be some initial aggression for sure between the two, though the kole will probably be able to hold his own. One thing you can do is to rearrange all your rock work, try and cause confusion while you add the kole. So while your yellow, and other fish are trying to re-establish territories the kole will not take as much aggression. All that being said in a 90 gallon system two tangs can be done, but doesn't mean it necessarily should. Although I have heard success with these two particular tangs in a 90

I have a Kole and a yellow in my 90. They get along but I added them at the same time. The yellow is more aggressive and the Kole doesn't care.

Although they are both tangs, they eat differently (we call the Kole rubber lips) and together do a good job of keeping the algae down.

The only other fish I have is a pigmy angel.

I wouldn't try this in a 90.

Thanks for the advice and opinions all. I think I'll pass on any additional tangs for the tank and wait until I upgrade to a larger aquarium in the future.
