Add star or wait?

How long does a starfish need to survive in your tank before you can assume safely that it's eating and not starving to death? I have a few that have been in my tank about 14 - 16 months now depending, I presume it's safe to assume those starfish are doing fine?

(they're bigger than the used to be, and the one with a missing leg is regrowing it slowly but surely)

No question this happens, I know quite a few people who disagree with the low survival rate, but it's low, not impossible

Yes, I would have thought they would have perished by now....Cool!

What about a tile sea star(Fromia monilis) my wife has been bugging since I set up the tank for a star in particular one like mentioned above. She’s been on LA alot looking at them. This one in particular only grows to 5” which is about as big as I prolly want it due to my tank only being 90 gal. It would be a while before we get one as to my tank being young and I want it to be a year+ before adding somethin like that too it. Any thoughts on the tile sea star?

I wonder if there isn't some damage being routinely caused in the introduction of the starfish?

Starfish I'll literally drip acclimate anywhere from 3 - 6 hours before adding them to the tank, way longer than anything else.

I wonder if there's any correlation between how long you acclimate before adding and long term survival?

Oh I am sure the transfer process is a big factor in success especially with any invert, but probably there are additionals like, species, predators, food, water quality, trace elements, stability.
I am thinking it's probably a combination of all simultaneously so the fact yours have survived is likely a testament to your DT.
