Ok I filled it up with Ro/Di and added Instant ocean mix I have a 1.0235... specific gravity and a ph of 8.4. I am using test solution on the ph and a refractometer on the salinity. The Ph seem's a little high I thought it needed to be around 8.4 I could be wrong on this total newbie on the chemistry. I didn't bother with amonia or nitrates.

I also have large (bee bee or smaller) chunks of salt that are sitting on the bottom of the tank, not many maybe a dozen, I stireed them up but they just floated around and settled again, shold I worry about them or just let them be?

I would give them 24hrs to dissolve.......then I would remove them. They really shoud not make that much of a difference.

I think you may have made a typo or something...you said that it turned out 8.4, and then you said you thought it should be 8.4 but it seems a bit high? I dont know..i just got confused on that one lol.

But IMO 8.4 is fine. Keep it constant, thats just as important.

for the undissolved salt, try to break them up, and if they still dont dissolve, maybe take the bigger ones out if they're not too hard to get. If they are...i've just covered them with the sand before lol. It wont do any harm.

I ment to type 8.5 but then I went back to check and it was 8.4 so I don't know, at any rate it is at 8.4 now so I guess that is good. You know how it goes with this stuff.
