Adding 1 or 2 clownfish

I've got a 20 gallon high that just finished cycling. In the next couple of weeks I plan on adding some livestock. I'm planning of adding a clown first.

My ideal stock list is two clowns, and possibly a goby/pistol combo. Nothing else, and maybe not even the goby/pistol combo.

So, my question is, should I buy my pair of clownfish together, or one at a time, and with some time in between?

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks!

It will be way easier if you put in two clowns at the same exact time. Be sure that one is a little bigger than the other. If they are young, they may pair without fighting at all.

If you put in one clown first, its first instinct is to defend its territory against a new intruder. They will usually pair eventually, but not without a period of battle.

Phender, thank you for chiming in. I'm going to give my tank a couple more weeks, to make sure it's stable, and then go from there. I appreciate the help!

I agree, always better to find a mated pair rather than placing in two hoping they mate. We bought our pair of Darwins together and its been love ever since lol :celeb3:

You don't need to find a "mated pair". Two juvies of different size will almost always become a mated pair soon enough with little or no fighting if put in at the same time. Since you have a 20 gal, I am assuming you will be going with either ocellaris or percula.

Thank you all for the tips. I like some of the hybrid ones, but will most likely stick with an Ocellaris, or Percula pair.
