Adding a Clown After One Day!!

InADream

I'm That Guy!!
Ok, here is my situation... I ordered 2 clown fish from a LFS, well when i got there only one of the clowns was healthy enough to have been shipped... So I ended up with only one clown, the smaller one... No I am left with the dilemma, I am going out tomorrow to search for another Clown... Do I get a smaller one, comparable one, or larger... The clown has been in the tank for an hour now and is doing great... He is about 1 inch in size...

Does the pairing rules apply to a fish that has been in the tank for that short of time... What do I do? Please HELP...

Will take much longer for a clownfish to morph into a male or female then just one day. Especially if it is as small as you're claiming. I'd imagine you'd be safe for quite some time so take your time and find the clown you want. Don't just buy one impulsively like I did when I had the same fear as you. My osc.clown is misbarred and I regret it to this day. But I do love her personality.

You're safe at this point. Just get a clown that is as different in size from your current clown as you can. Either bigger or smaller.

Would there be any problems if I was to go ahead and add a baby Blue Tang in the mix or would they all get along great...

How new to the hobby are you and how long has your tank been set up? How big is your tank?

Tangs aren't good fish for beginners in my opinion. I've never had one, but research I've done on them says they need atleast a 55g tank, and aren't very beginner friendly due to their eating habits and how prone to illness (ich) they are.

If you are new and your tank isn't atleast 50g and the tank hasn't been set up for atleast a month I wouldn't even consider a tang. They don't stay baby for long and need a lot of room.

I have a true and false perc mated pair. It can work if you dont mind a mismatched pair.

I would wait on a tang as they should be added last to a tank. A tang will more than likely pick on any new fish that is added after
them.

BTW....

i dont know what size tank you have but if you want a powder blue or a hippo tang you will need at least 100g to 125g minimum because of swim space and territorial issues. there are a few tangs rated for a 75G minimum but i have never heard of one rated for a 50g(again i dont know what size you have). if your tank is large enough i would add the tang later-IMHO. good luck.
