Adding Copperband

robs fish

What can I do to help with adding this fish with a Purple tang already in the tank.Would it be better to add 2 of them.

Thanks Rob

I did not have any luck adding a CBB to my tank with a Purple Tang already in the tank. It harassed the CBB and it wouldn't eat.
Putting 2 CBB's in the tank will probably end up with 2 distressed or dead fish.

If you really want to do this then, if you can, remove the Tang from the tank until the CBB settles in.

That's the great thing about the bad temper of a Purple tang, you can use it against them. They think they are indestructable so you can catch them with a trap real easy and put him in the sump until your CBB gets acclimated and established.

Print out a life-sized picture of a copperband (or two), cut it out and tape it to the outside of the glass. Leave it there for a few days prior to adding the new copperband. The current occupants will become "accustomed" to the new addition long before you add it. Aggression will be greatly reduced. Works well for me.

eskymick - That's sounds like a crazy idea, but if it works then it's a brilliant idea. I've heard people say they've used the floating specimen tanks to adjust the current fish with the new ones, but never a photo. Did your fish go after the photo in the beginning?

i agree with tmoving the rocks around as much as possible without changing/disrupting your whole setup. also, try to mess with the tangs hangout as much as you can. if you can move around the rocks by your tangs "favorite spot" and move around a few powerheads to change your flow, the tang will become confused and hav to find a new home. so the tang will restablish itself as the same time as the copperband.

althoguuh this isnt some muricle that can tpossibly fail, it certainly beats nothing.

adn, if possible, throw the tang in the sump, do all this, let the CBB settle in, then put tang back in

good luck and let us know what you choose to do!

I have a trap that I hope will still fit in the tank as I bought a buddies set-up and added some more rock to the tank.If the trap works which I will leave in for a few days then I will put him in the sump.

I will post up what works.
