Adding Fairy Wrasses?

Hello,

I want to add some fairy wrasses to my 90 G reef and needed some help on how to go about it. I want only males, but i'm not sure if I can buy them all at once. I have also herd that if you keep enough males they will not pick on one another. Total I want about 4 to 5.

Can I start by only adding one or two or do I need to add more than that to start with?

Should I add any females?

Thanks,

Dallas

Here are some of the ones I have been looking at. Sooooo Expensive! :mad2:

Fairy Wrasses:

Scott's
Exquisite
Labouti
Lineatus
Rhomboid
Velvet
Tono's

McCosker's Flasher

Thanks,

Fairy Wrasses:

Scott's Pretty but very aggressive; will lose some coloration without a female
Exquisite
Labouti
Lineatus Excellent fish
Rhomboid Excellent fish
Velvet Recommended
Tono's Very Aggressive

McCosker's Flasher Superb, best in a harem of three M/F/F

Thanks,

Dallas

I have annotated some, but what else is already in the tank? Some fish will not go well with fairy and flasher wrasses

Thanks Steve!

Right now there is only a Pair of O. Snowflake Clowns and 5 Anthias. I am also thinking of adding Gobies, and a Tang.

I have a 125 with a # of wrasses. I agree with Snorvich's characterizations.

My Labouti gets picked on by my Condei a lot and less so by my Solorensis, both known to be on the aggressive side and not on your list.

Exquisite's are terrific fish and not aggressive.

Thanks guys!

Tank is covered along with overflow. That's just too much money to find on the floor!

Can I have all Males? And do I have to add them all at the same time? Should I add the more aggressive ones last?

You need to have 1/4 inch mesh holes or acrylic or glass tops as they can get through egg crate. All males is no problem. I would add them one at a time but build or buy an acclimation chamber. See bradleyj for acclimation chamber design and/or mesh top plan.

i have a lineatus, flame sub adult, labouti, mccoskers, yellow coris, melanarus. +1 on acclimation box

This is a great source for acclimation chamber.

If you get a scotts, add him last, rhomboid first.
Let me warn you, once you start buying wrasses, you are hooked.:lol:

Thanks again I do have the glass tops, no chance for escape!

Nice Tank Brad!

I have an Acclimation box, how long do you leave them in there for? Lights on or off?

DMan: Do you have 1 McCoskers or did you go with the trio?

I'm glad I only have to add them one at a time, it seams I only like the expensive stuff. So I guess its time to look for a good looking Rhomboid
