Adding haddoni, tapetum splitting. Coincidence?

So, I bought a huge Stichodactyla haddoni for myself as a BD present on thursday, as I turned 30 on tuesday :xlbirthday:
The haddoni is a bit bleached, but healing nicely. I have visited it for a month or so in my LFS, and now it looked healthy enough to move in my tank. I suspect it might be green/turquoise with white stripes. I actually have one just like that already.
The LFS actually ordered red and blue ones from Indonesia, but it's hard to tell the color yet. The price was low, se maybe it is just green.

The funny thing is, that now one of my Stichodactyla tapetums has splitted! I really don't know if they do that, and the info found online is quite controversial, to say the least :uhoh3:
I'm wondering could the adding of the new haddoni have triggered this behavior or is it just coincidence?
I have 3 tapetums, all different color so it's not just another nem but a whole new specimen. The anemone is neon green, the others are pink/green and orange/yellow/green.
Unfortunately the splitted anemone can only be seen from above the tank at the moment, so a picture isn't going to happen... :sad2:

I'm wondering, do tapetums split on their own often? I have had my first tapetum for over a year and it has only grown, not spit. These two new ones have I had for only a month or so, and already one splitted!

Happy Late Birthday! Why are you so mean in your picture hahaha.

I wonder if a little change in water chemistry started the split. It should have been able to sense the addition due to basic receptors and a few stinging cells floating around. I wonder if it thinks that tow are better than one to start war.

Do you have any pics of before and after? Maybe some of the new addition too?

Hahaaa! Thanks! I'm not mean, just sad 'cause I'm so old :sad1:

I suspected that too. The same has happened with BTA's before.
I tried to take some pics, but it's really hard to shoot with iPhone under LED's... The splitted nem can't be pictured without shutting the streams, moving one on the lights and climbing above the tank, so I'm not going to do that in this hour (it's 11:30 here in Finland and the "better half" is sleeping upstairs), sorry...
I'll attach some pics that I just took of the new pale haddoni and my other tapetums :lmao:
Again, sorry for poor pictures...

S. tapetum are known to split frequently in the home aquarium.
This is true of the small ones, but not the "maxi minis," which I think is what Rapide has. If there is an allelopathy issue, I think you'll see the tapetums moving around and maybe bleaching as well as splitting.

Don't think there is an allelopathy issue. After all it should have been the resident haddoni having trouble, I think... I actually tried to avoid that by adding a LOT more carbon in the system and placing the new haddoni as far from the existing one as possible. They have more than 9' of reef between them...

Have to study the differences between a "mini carpet anemone" and a "Maxi mini"...

Easy there Jean Claude, Tong Po wants a rematch! I think in that size system, they are unrelated incidents.

Yes, that's probably right.

Rapide, there are two types of little carpet-like anemones that people commonly refer to using the name "tapetum." One is really small, seldom exceeding 1-2 inches in diameter. Those are the ones that split frequently. The other is like what you have, which can expand up to 4 inches when it's happy and relaxed like the ones in your picture. I'm not sure if the latter is actually S. tapetum or something else. Hence my use of the common name (which I know is not helpful and try to avoid) of "maxi minis" that people use for the larger ones.

Hope this helps.

Robin, you didn't help at all! Why did you have to go there... :hmm3:
Now I have to start to study this matter for real. It hasn't even crossed my mind, that I might have two different "mini carpets" in my tank! :inlove:

Oh man... This is great news. These mini's are quite new stuff here, and not that many people collect them yet. I happen to think they are bestness!!

I tried to shoot the two new halfs, but they are still behind a pillar and have moved towards each other. A RBTA is tickling the other half, so maybe it'll move soon... Sorry for the bad quality again, iPhone + LED's = terrible pics :thumbdown
