I'm preparing to add a mushroom to my tank and was wondering what the preferred protocol is to add it safely. Do I need to acclimate it or dip it or anything like that before I put it in?
Assuming your tank has reef-type salinity, just float (temp acclimate) and place in the tank. If it's already on rock, glue the rock where you want it.
No need for acclimation, just give the Mushrooms plenty of space. Not in two weeks, not in two months, just invision this healthy coral in a year... Those tires probably need to be rotated.
Salinity is perfect. If you want to be extra careful, test the salinity of the water in the bag and make sure it matches or is very close. If it's not, you might drip acclimate.
However, I much prefer to eat the mushroom myself. I've added them to my tank before and my fish don't seem to get near the pleasure as I do. [emoji6]
EDIT: Oh yeah, if it's on a rock, dipping isn't a bad idea. Of course, the "œproper" way to any coral or fish and avoid pests is to quarantine everything. It really is the best way though not always easy.
Is it ok to glue it down from the beginning? If it doesn't like the location I picked for it is it going to wander off? The place I envision it in is partially blocked from direct light and away from the main flow.
I don't glue until the piece has shown it likes the spot. I give about 2 months or so to watch, then I glue it down if needed....always dip your corals to remove as much hitchhikers, pests before adding to your tank. Do that with each coral.
You can dip, clean and acclimatize in the same process, takes about 30 minutes..
