hello....I have a tank that has been up for about 3 years. I just got 50 lbs of dry rock from maco. Should I add it all at once..? or a few a day..? right now it is in a brute with a power head cleaning it. I just wasn't sure what would happen I I set it all up at once...thanks for the iinfo

I would either cycle the rock in a separate container and then add it all at once or only add a couple of rocks each week.

how would I go about cycling the rock..? right now it is in a brute with r/o water and a power head.

As long as there is not too much on the rock to die off should be fine if you already have a lot of live rock in the tank (assuming you do). If so, intermix and in 6 months you will not be able to tell the new from the old.

After basic cleaning, I added over 100 lbs of dry to my 200 that all ready had 200lbs. Tested for the first few days, no spikes or issues…

You might have phosphate (algae) issue from putting dry rock into the tank. It would go away with GFO and time, but easiest just to condition the rock. I'd put a tiny bit of live rock into the container, aerate the daylights out of it, leave the top open, and just keep it all going about a month or so.

Yeah the rock is pure white. I do not see any criters or life on it at all. Although this is the first time I have bough rock online. So am assuming there would be no die off. So I should still let it stay in the brute with a power head for a month or so. ?? I was thinking I could just put it in the tank. But I do. It want the rock to leach anything into my tank. I have about 100 lbs or so of rock in the tank now. I will be adding about 50 or so

I have Gfo running right now but that is new to me so not sure if it is set up right. I have the Gfo tumbling but the container are not filling up with water

i would give it good peroxide bath/scrub, rinse it real good then let it marinate in brute with a powerhead for a few. i put 90lbs or dry rock straight into my 40g long. and it's leaching phosphates pretty bad....im taking care of it with chemi-pure, cheato and a large skimmer, but it still sucks. i should have washed/cleaned the rock prior...just my .02

Ok so my rocks have been in the brute for awhile and I am wanting to put them in the tank this weekend. My question is should I let the rocks dry out first or can I just put them in the tank ?
