Adding pH probe to MRC2 CA reactor

I spent the last 3 days looking for a compression fitting for the pH probe (.5 inches). My last stop was Exotic Aquatic on Oakland Park Blvd. I don't know the salesman's name, but he explained how I can use the John Guess fitting with the pH probe. Thank you thank you.

Basically, you have to drill out the center of the fitting to match the size of the opening. It works!!!

the salesman was 'awesome' Andy (lol), aka saltwaterfishlover
cmon man he's a freak.:wavehand:

true I am a freak.... and proud of it.... tattoo's . had piercings..... married..... (god was that a mistake) actually very happy with wife except when she gets on RC and tells me the things I do incorrectly on the tank.....

my thought process is definitely weird.... I tell people you know that box that people think outside of..... I think outside of that one......

:)

I do agree with roger I would have tried to plumb it more inline with the flow of the loop rather than off the side like that you may not get a accurate PH reading.... take a pic of the whole reactor so we can give you a little better idea where to put it.... but if it works.... and aint broke.... dont fix it.....

J/k Hey Andy call me to see when u can come by.
BTW Andy is a very experienced reefer and aquarists with tons of great inside on this hobby.

Hello everyone,
Early Saturday morning, I read a pH on my CA reator of 5.1. I got my portable pH meter to check the water in chamber 1 and it read 6.9.
I went to Lowe's and got the parts to move the pH meter into the flow of the pump and now the readings are correct.
It was a cloud of water coming out of the 2nd chamber since the CO2 was on for some time.

I have the pH controller set to come on at 7.1 and a drip rate of 25 ml/min. The tank pH is currently 8.1 and using Kalk reactor to refill. Kalk ph is 12.0

Ph controller should shut off the co2 solenoid at < 6.5 ph, initial drip rate should be 50ml/min, check the effluent alkalinity, you should get no less that 25 to 40 DKH.

Call me if you need help.

The probe is now in the flow. I measured my water this morning:
Ca 500
Alk 11.8
ph in chamber 1 is 6.8
ph in chamber 2 is 7.2
ph in tank is 8.1
ph in kalk reactor is 12

I am affraid to low the ph in chamber on to <6.5ph due to a Ca of 500.

Prior to installing the Ca Reactor, I had a Ca=480, Alk=11.2

The shut of at 6.5 will keep the acidity needed for the media to dissolve, if the consumption in your tank is not sufficient and you actually have a constant increase in the Calcium them all you need to do is lower the Effluent drip rate until you find a happy medium that maintains calcium at our desire level, I keep mind at around 430 - 450.

I found this on a search. My question is for Saltwaterfshlover. I have the same schuran reactor. How did you connect the white pvc to the gray? Isn't the gray metric? Also how do you drill out the John guest fitting when there is a o-ring inside? I tried to put my ph pen in with the blue handle still on but I'm running so much co2 through the reactor that it gets air trapped up inside and does not read the water. I need to eliminate the blue handle piece like you did to get it down in the water. Thanks for any info.

you drill the guest fitting from the back side very carefully and I just took the fitting to lowes or home depot and found one that screwed on nicely... I think it was just a pipe thread maybe 1inch will look at it tomorrow and see if I can see what fitting it actually is

I can't believe it does not leak. Did you seal the gray pvc to the white pvc with something? I can see that you used teflon tape on the threads to seal that but what about the other part. There is an o-ring in the blue handle part that seals it and you have removed this. I hope that made sense. Maybe I could take the o-ring out and use it. Thanks for the help.
