Adding quick disconnect to power cord ok?

I like the clean and tidy look of hidden wires, but the downside is its a pain when its time to remove skimmers/pumps/etc for maintanence. Anyone know if its ok to cut and add a waterproof/resistant quick disconnect to the power cord? If so, any recommended connectors to use? My pumps are all past their warranty so thats not a concern.

Sure.. I wouldn't recommend making the splice in an area that needs them to be waterproof though.
If anything just get a male/female plug (just like whats on the end of the cord) and splice that in somewhere closer to the devices..

I'm not sure whats available in Taipei but in the US its super easy to walk into any hardware store and pick up a male and female plugs that are typically used to repair broken extension cords,etc...

thanks for the reply mcgyvr. the waterproof would just be extra protection against any spray or accidents. i'd put the splice near where the cable exits the cable raceway or someplace easy to access but decently away from water.

was primarily concerned if the addition of the connection would cause any electrical load/resistance/etc. that may impact the skimmer/return effectiveness. i'm not an electrician and hope someone could shine some light on the subject.

Absolutely not a concern provided you use a connection rated to carry the voltage/current..
Hence why I just suggested using male/female plugs just like at the end of the cord.. You can certainly use something else though too.. Again just make sure that connector is rated for the voltage/current of the device (almost always marked on the product already)..
take a picture of the product markings if you are unsure..

thanks jd371 for the reply. so no problems? surprised that more reefers don't do this especially those with clean hidden wire sumps. getting wires out of the raceway is a pain. maybe i didn't design my sump layout more efficiently.

i'll look for something similar to what you used and post my setup when iit gets done. l

Those that have the knowledge/skill/need just do it and just don't post about it... Its kind of like tweeting that you just ate lunch.. Not that exciting :)
I've extended many a cord or changed plugs to something more suitable for my needs or whatever.

The rest of the reefer population just doesn't have the knowledge or skill to even do so and as such doesn't even ask the question..
You give a connector/crimp pin set to many and you'd just get a blank stare in return..and maybe an "umm.. what do I do with this :hmm2:"
