I am looking at getting 3 tangs, a yellow, powder blue or naso and regal, into a 180 gallon, anybody see possible problems or advantages to adding them all at the same time? or would it be better to just add one at a time spaced out over a few months.
yeah that would be your best bet. if you read about it,even on live aquaria, they will tell you to add tangs at the same time. i have 5 of them together and i added them at the same time. they have been together for over 2 yrs. its best because none of the fish would already have established their area. this is just from my experience.
i have 6 all in a 200 added at diffrent times. i would add the regal let it get established and then the naso then the yellow and pb together. that way the blue can get eating they can be hard to get established the naso wont cause trouble. then when you add the pb and yellow they can be added after other tangs and not be so agressive. jmo
There is certianly nothing that works for everybody on this. My general rule is to add them when you can get healthy specimens that are eating well. If you get them all at once, it will work. If you get them a few, or one, at a time, then it will work too.
Well the regal tang has been put in the tank, surpringly found him at the LFS, small guy only 2 inches or so and needs to get fattened up. But so far he has seemed to adjust to the tank nicely. Started eating flakes immeditately. Going to be adding a yellow tang and I think the PB next week, going to keep them small as well so no tang is bigger then the other two.
