Adding to QT Tank

I have a quick question. I added a couple of fish to my qt tank a couple of weeks ago and started a copper treatment today. Can I add another fish to the qt tank with the copper present?

Likely, but the process will need to be extened/restarted if you will since any new addition might have something.
Also, if the new fish is sensitive to copper, etc....check into those.

Yes great advise....

Any copper should be added slow to help the fish adjust better. If you are getting a fish from a system that already has copper in it your chances are better. If not you are taking a fish from zero copper and putting it in treatment range copper usually not a good idea.

But if you do add make sure your treatment time starts over again 4 weeks from your last addition if your using cupramine.

It will be no problem to start the qt period over. I added the first dose of cupramine yeasterday. How long does it take for the copper to start working? The 2 fish still had ick spots this morning but they are still eating. Thanks

It can take a few days. The life cycle of the ich on the fish needs to change to the form that drops to the bottom. From the reading I have done copper only kills ich in the free floating stage. There has been some difference of opinion on that but no definitive answer.

If you have only added the first does of Cupramine you can add another fish but wait another 48 hours after you add the hew fish to add the second dose. Make sure you leave the fish in cuprmaine at .5 for 4 weeks.

I actually think I stole that advice from you RBU:>)
If you JUST started the first dose of Cupramine then the extra fish you add would likely be fine going into that...again, unless it is sensitive.
I had a pair of new clowns in my DT (big mistake, went against my old ways, but wanted to get our old running tank looking good)...one died from my lack of swiftness...the other had alittle ich, but was acting and eating fine...I set up my QT...I did a 75 minute Paraguard bath (though some advised against it), rinsed him, then into QT. I added the first dose of Cupramine later that night....next AM he was covered in ich and I was mad that I made it so much worse...later that night the ich was gone! I waited 48 hours to add another half dose (fish was doing fine), then another 48 hours to get to recommended dose. SO I guess it starts working pretty fast.
IF the fish is doing ok and does not have tons of ich, I think slowly work your way up to the proper doseage.
I try to think of it as us getting shots or taking meds...and how large quantities alter our bodies all at once.
Good luck.
