Adding trace elements/coral foods?

What are your experiences with this? I'm wondering if I should be dosing my tank to "make pretty colors" or whatnot. Everything seems very healthy already - but I go to my LFS and he doses super heavily he says (his tanks are gorgeous). What do you guys use?

My tank auto doses and keeps the parameters steady at 9.5dkh, 440ppm, and 1320 mag. The rest of the parameters are spot on to where they should be..The tank is mostly softies with a few hards being slowly introduced.

Been looking at the redsea stuff - Coral colors and Coral energy.

Do not add trace elements!

coral food I do reef roids.

Never dose anything you cant test. "Dosing very heavily" can be due to the amount of coral he has.

Don't!
Your salt mix is already adding them in the right proportions: read the label. Sellers of reef potions don't have to do 'truth in advertising' or justify anything, or account to the FDA: it's the wild west of anything-goes. Lay off all such until such time as tests show you need them, say about 3 years on in this hobby with a very large tank.

In home aquariums, the elements are added by water changes so I would not recommend heavy dosage.

A basic rule of reefing is 'don't dose what you don't have a test for,' and you could go broke (and crazy) having a dozen different tests and results and, and, and, all of which would show you have 'enough'. What corals really eat is light, mostly; and stony ones eat calcium. The proper balance is, for an example, 1350 magnesium (it'll encourage your coralline); 8.3 alkalinity; and 420 calcium. If you have a fishonly salt, it will be much lower in calcium. But alkalinity is hugely important, right along with your salinity stability. Those are the three tests and supplements you truly need for corals; and softies will not need the calcium that stony will.

Coral foods, yes. Assuming your nutrient export is up to par.

Trace, not unless you are testing for them and they show a depletion.
