I don't know about your area but near mine there is at least three places where I can bring my own jugs and buy RO water for about $0.35/gallon or $1.50/5 gallons. It may not be 100% pure but it's going to be a whole lot cleaner than tap or spring water. I use this for top-offs fairly often and it's the cheapest water available, as well. It would benefit you to do 20% weekly water changes with this type of water for a month or two to dilute the contaminants in the tap water.
I guess I lied lol I'm jus trying to make sure I know how to do this. When I set up my tank about a week ag. I used tap water should that be ok or should I get conditioner and put it in before my rock and fish
This one, and the question about ph make me think you aren't ready to stock the tank yet. How are you cycling the tank, is that done yet?
Filling a tank with unconditioned tap-water and testing ph is kind of like how people set up fresh water tanks, but this stuff is totally different. Even if you sort out the water question, I think you will run into trouble unless you slow down and do some research. It's cool that you are asking these questions and we are happy to help, but it kinda sounds like you are so new that there are things you aren't thinking to ask, we can't help much with that and it can jack you up pretty bad. For that stuff you really need to read up on the hobby so you get the big picture, and then we can fill in the gaps.
It can be a little overwhelming at first, but don't get discouraged - everybody was a noob at some point
If you are going to buy water, "distilled" is the best option because it will be the closest to rodi. Some brands are rodi
Thanks for the help guys. And don't get the wrong idea I'm thinking about stocking my tank I just want to set it up and get it started. I know there are a lot of things I still don't know. But that's what you guys are here for lol. What do you mean by cycling the tank?
