Adee's new build

looking good cant wait to see it full and rockscape done. good luck with the test corals.

thanks mate.

I still need to get my head around the rock-scape, but would need to be in way that corals will get full effect of the sun...while not hindering flow. As i have a cls would need to also see what i can do with that. I'm pondering on the idea of having two short pillars with the two outflow ends of the CLS sort of blowing "through" the rock work.

August update

August update

So...not much more tank building been done, hope to put together my big frag tank that will be plumbed into my DT.

I will follow with some posts of the frags I've been keeping in the half filled DT...everything still lit only by the (our) winter sun.

These corals have been here for about 4 weeks now and the color change from where I had in them in my other (lighted) tank, is nothing short of spectacular (just my observation).

This "normally" very brown table acro, has taken on a golden hue with all the growth points (tips) and bases (on the frags) taking on purplish almost pink hue. Please forgive the shorts strand of chaeto in the pics :spin2:

A frag of the same coral...see base color where the new growth has extended.

this one 4th August, 18 days later!

As a gauge, the marble plug in 2cm wide...I've got 3-5mm growth on the base in just 18 days.

I grew this A. secale from a mere shaving, about 5mm wide, back then it had about 5 polyps on it. Again a pink hue on the growth edges

The natural sunlight seems to be making the coral colour realy pop. I want to come Monday again to get some frags.

Part Two - Nursery tank

Part Two - Nursery tank

Ok, so had some time last week to finish the frag aka nursery tank. The tank measures 2000mm x 1200mm x 260mm (water height) in 10mm normal glass. Total volume is around 600 litres.

Here is the base, I painted the chip board under neath white....to get some good reflection going.

Tank finished, I gave it 3 days for the silicone to cure....as I really laid it on thick around the corners.

These will form part of the overflow, two pieces of 6mm pasted together.

DSC01778.jpg

Drilled the two pieces of square cut glass and did same on the side glass on the tank, pasted those and fitted a short length of threaded nylon tubing (25mm)

Pasted the wall that will form the skinny over flow.

Threaded elbows screwed in place, plumbed in together to form a T-Piece.

Down-pipe ends up below, in the Live Rock sump.

Tank was filled for first water test, the skinny overflow started leaking at the base end. Not a problem, laid in some silicone (underwater) along the edge which sorted that out immediately, carried on with the water fill. Left the tank running for another 3 days...no leaks.

So with the tank built...I had to transfer all of this out of the main display.

DT emptied out....

Transfered all the stock today.

close up of the skinny overflow, I plumbed in a temp return pump from the LR sump below.

So I have a little island thing going on the left, chaeto ball in the middle at the back...and the rest of my frags on the right.

I will move all the LR to the sump below, need to pick the rocks clean of hermits and snails as I move the rock. Still lots of more LR though...

small update:

I had a bit of a set back a few weeks ago, was moving the LR from the top to down below in the LR tank and accidentally bumped the edge of the tank. Thought nothing of it then, went to go pick up my daughter from school, only to return to the sump emptying itself out on the floor....600l down the drain. I managed to patch the crack by pasting a sheet of glass on the inside.

Anyways moved LR sump all full and back online, also moved most of the rock to the sump below. Need to buy more LR and get her all filled up.

On the main rimless display I did its first full to the brim water test just to double check nothing was "loosened" on it journey to having it moved to my place. Will start filling her up with RO water in preparation to plumbing this tank in with the frag tank.

I can't wait to get this show on the road.
