Adee's new build

Stunning tank mate.

I am curious about the build of the main tank, that is an acheivment in its self.
You say it is 24mm, is this toughened laminate or 25mm float glass ?

Do you get much of a bow down the length of the long panels?

Got to try this someday soon :hmm6:
Any more info you can share would be great, base detail etc.

Regards

Vince

Great work!
thanks mate.

Thanks Vince. The glass is double sheets of 12mm, laminated together. The glass used is "starfire" glass which has a very low iron content. There is very little bow. We have a local glass manufacture that does this type of process, so one can order sheets in sizes you want. Give me a shout if you want more info.

Amazing set-up. I prefer using sunlight too. I once had a tank facing the westside window. Corals loved the sunlight, even the few hours we have in wintertime (Amsterdam, NL). In summer hardly needed to use the artifical lights. I hope to make a similar set-up to 'my' house (is rental) too.

Great Project Adee...

Thanks Paul. Yes, I would encourage guys to make use of sunlight where you can. I supposed if we all had a choice we would design and build a house around our tanks :D.

Blown away with the scale of your rimless tank.

I am a tankbuilder in the UKand have taken on some big projects, but never a rimless of this size, the glass is no problem for me to get hold of I work with toughened lam on a daily basis, I am curious as to which silicone you used, for all my large builds I use GE silicone sg4000 structural silicone, the only trouble I have is on the odd occasion I get air pockets forming as it cures, these are not present at application but form as it dries.

If I could find a replacement that I know has proved itself, I would be very keen to try it.

Is the tank built around a double base or a stepped base ?

The slimline overflow is being used here by a few nano keepers, the idea is very good indeed.

Thanks in advance

Vince ( uk rimless)

Thanks Vince.

The tank was built by one of SA's master tank builders by the name of Adriaan (has a shop by the name of Idol Marine). The black silicone used I think was Den Braven black AQUA-SILICON.

For the base I would say its stepped, as it sort of have has panels that overlap. I would never personally even attempt a tank of this size on my own. I hope your attempt of something this size (and freekishly heavy) works out well for you. I love the rimless look and would never go back to anything else. The best view is from the top with pumps switched off.

Thanks Adee,

I will follow this up further, I have got a bit of a wait until I build the new tank, but when I do I plan on making it the biggest rimless, at least in the UK

I dare not brake my current tank down, as it has just be anounced TOTM on Ultimate Reef for May. WOO HOO its only taken me 15 years :lmao:

I will be watching with interest, to see the progress of your tank.

Cheers Bro

A few months ago I bought a whole lot of live rock from a fellow reefer. After unpacking the lot and letting the rock settle in, I noticed what at first looked like a majano anemone, no bigger than a zoa head.

So I let this baby lie and moved it with its piece of rubble rock to the nursery tank where it now basks in sunshine. I have been feeding it tiny pinches of mysis and krill every other day. Appears to be growing nicely

Microbe-Lift Special Blend

Microbe-Lift Special Blend

Well, bought enough to do the start up dose and for the month thereafter.

Dosing for 660 gallons:

Day 1 add 720 mL (24 oz.)

Day 8, 15, 22 and 29 add 480 mL (16 oz.)

After this the maintenance is every 2nd week 180 mL (6 oz.)

Will see what gives in 3 months. Must add, that my nitrates and phos are already at undetectable levels (need to get a Hanna meter) using Elos test kits.

Will post findings as I see things change, hopefully for the better.

So I got my hanna phosphate checker...need to get to 0.02

I suspect die off from my macro is also dumping nutrients back into my system as well. Thinking of running GFO then removing macro out of the system.

I very nice.. Not that Many people would try running the tank with the sun, A+++

thanks mate...yeah I had many sleepless night deliberating setting up a sunlit reef...thankfully its been much more than i expected it would be.

ok so I took some pics...

a front shot of the tank, i think its the best view...especially when your nose is on the glass...

front left close up...i've got a growth shot of that SPS in the middle, it like the others, have done well and is sprouting in all directions.

centre overhang...my two SPS islands will eventuall touch...remember this shot, 'cause if all goes well, should happen in about 8 month time.
DSC04061.JPG

This brown SPS is slowly getting its color back and growth spurts are showing different colors from the rest of the body..the trick will be to get nutrient levels low enough so that the stems of the coral look the same as the tips.
