Advice needed for fish fighting

Thought I did through research, trusted a fellow reefer's advice, told the LFS existing stock..yada yada yada. Currently have 90 gal but upgrading to 140 in the next 2 weeks. Stock was Foxface, small clown, Sailfin 3 inches approx, Coral Beauty plus cleaning crew. LFS got in a Powder Blue that I fell in love with, he's small 2 inches or so. I was told I'd be okay since he's the smallest with the exception of the clown but the Sailfin is tearing him up anytime he sneaks out. Sailfin is marked as a peaceful fish and he's never attacked anything. He's only been in tank about 2 months. Hate to see the little guy being chased all over. He's only been in the tank an hour or so. I know typically tangs need more space when they get bigger and they will have bigger tank soon.

Advice needed for fish fighting

Hi!
Huh... Sailfin what? Tang or blenny? Because pretty much all zebrasomas are f*#*ers . I think maybe scopas being the nicest of them and some will tell you that sailfin blennies can be pretty annoying too with a stressed newcomer.
Perhaps in a new larger tank where they are all "somewhat newcomers" because of different rock positioning they'll interact better or not at all. If it's really bad maybe a tank splitter until the new 140 is ready to go[emoji16]

A splitter , a plexiglass with holes, a glass with holes , a pvc screen to split two separate areas in the tank. A different aquarium or a 5 gallon bucket with a small filter for the night until you can find a solution tomorrow. If neither is possible because obviously it can be pretty hard to catch a 3 inch fish in a 90 gallon . Maybe try moving the rocks around to break territories and hope for the best! They're prone to settle down for the night.
I would put the aggressor in a separate container / aquarium unless the newcomer is already showing signs of stress in wich case it woul be acting like a qt tank for a few days. Mind you powder blue tangs are easily prone to ichtyophthyrius. Lfs should almost sell them in "package" deal with cleaner shrimp or cleaner wrasse...

Good luck

On the bright side he came out and ate some mysis. I've read thru all 14 pages of the PBT thread and have hope. Many keep them together. Hopefully they'll learn to get along :)

The Sailfin is going to get way too big for the 140. I think you are asking for trouble keeping it with the PBT in a tank that size.

Happy to reply everyone was playing nicely this morning. PBT eating and nipping on rocks. Long term I want a bigger tank, actually found a 220 last night but have to find an easier way to handle plumbing first. The 5 gal bucket method got old quick. As small as the tangs are I think I should be good for awhile, unless someone has ideas for plumbing :)
