Hi Guys.....I am in the process of ordering a new 180 tank, I know I will have plenty of questions but for now I need help with overflow boxes....here is my dilemma:

Would you,
Buy a RR with corner overflows (higher price)
Buy a RR with middle overflows (costs less than the one above)
Buy a regular no RR and install your own overflow box? (cheaper than both above)

I have a 75 gal that I drilled with an overflow rated 700 gph box from G-Holes.....I can either buy another 700 box (I would remove the box I have on the 75 and put in the 180, so I would have two 700 gph boxes) or they have a 1500 gph box.......

Do you think this is better, I always hear that people dont like the big overflows that come built in, at the same time I dont know if 1400 gph or 1500gph overflows are big enough for a 180 tank.

Just as a side note, I will have 3 MP40s that would turn the water in the aquarium pretty good, some people say that slow overflows are better for the skimming part others do not agree, what do you think

Thanks guys

hey have same tank with overflows ofset build two rock pillars to cover overflows best way to go in my opinion besides if the tank is not inwall you will see inside corner overflows just a thought

so you are saying that if the tank is not going to be in-wall (which it wont be) then the best option is the middle overflows......my issue has more to do with space than looks, would I gain a little more swimming space if I just get a regular tank drill it myself and just put a overflow box that will be about 8" in the water instead of the columns from top to bottom?

for me middle overflows were better it all depends what you like my is all the way next a wall so built in are alot cleaner looking no pipes coming out the back in a tank this size you really don't lose that much space what you decide make sure no going back once you drill tank

hey i dont have a 180 but in my 75, i have a middle overflow and if i could oder my tank, i would go with corners becuase the middle overflows would block flock creating dead spots and it is hard to landscape and such. this is my experience with middle overflows.
