Advice on dedicated S. Haddoni or Gigantea tank

Hi all,

I'm getting back into the game after a couple years. I lost my last tank to a defective chiller that killed everything. My two beautiful percs and my nem.

Really heartbreaking stuff.

Anyhow, I saw the postings for Elos tanks and it has really sparked a desire to build a new dedicated S. Haddoni or S. Gigantea tank. The only other livestock would be a pair of Ocellaris and cleaning crew. As for corals, just some softies to add color.

What do you guys think of a Elos System 70 as a tank for what I'm thinking of?

Thanks in advance!

Bill

I believe the tank in question would be great for either species. Although similar in appearance these two species are quite different as far as care goes. In my opinion, unless you have access to a known healthy gigantea I would recommend starting with a haddoni. They are less light demanding, like less flow, and seem to be less demanding in general as long as their basic needs are met (main one being a sufficiently deep sand bed to feel comfortable.)

I agree with Winwood. You will need to decide which species you plan to keep, before designing and building the system. They require very different environments to do well.

For either of these I might choose a larger, wider, shallower tank for better lighting and more floor space. But that's a decent tank anyway.

Dean,

Very cool!!! More info please...lights, sump - Elos or something else, equipment list, haddoni or gigantea?

Pics of the sump area would be very helpful.

Thanks.
