OK, after lots of reasearch and some great advice here, I'm finally ready to post my first draft of the equipment I selected. Comments and suggestions are very appreciated.

Before I start thoughd2 It's important to knw that my goals are to keep a mixed SPS and softie tank with a few LPS thrown in and a healthy amount of fish. Being honest with myself, I know I'm not going to have the time to work on it every other day or so. With that being said, my goal is to automate as much as possible to try and help with maintenance down the road. Also, I hate buying things twice. Every time I try and save a buck, it costs me in the long run because I eventually buy what I should hve in the first place and I end up throwing away the junk I bought the first time.

Speaking of costs, I have listed the appoximate cost of each item. I do this not to get into a debate about the best place or where to buy items, but to give a reference as to where each piece fits into the overall cost. Again, if you think I'm skimping on something, please let me know.

Here goes ..

Tank - 210G AGA reef-ready = $675
Overlow - (2) AGA built in overflows = $130
Return lines - (2) Seaswirl Oscillator's = $325
Return pump - Sequence WAHOO (1550 GPH) = $450
Sump - 100 gallon Acrylilic tank w/ baffles and Refugium compartment = $600 (almost the same price as the @#!$% display tank!)
Lighting - (3) Reef Optix III HQI 250W Pendants = $300
Balasts - (3) IceCap 250W ballast = $350
Bulbs - (3) 12K 250W HQI Reeflux = $210
UV - Aqua UV 57W Sterillizer w/wiper = $370
Skimmer - Euro-Reef RS250 Skimmer w/ pump (in sump) = $475
Reactors - GEO 618 Calcium Reactor w/ Eheim 1048 pump = $350
Powerheads - (2) Tunze 6100 Turbelle Stream pumps = $700
Controllers - (1) Tunze 7-05 Multi-Controller

Let the ripping of the newbie (oops - I meant "suggestions for") begin!

I gave a a 210 aga like what your talking about....mine is over 300 now with the frag tank and refuge & sump....

I think you are spending waaayyy to much on what you are looking for.....I have a return pump that cost $190.00 my sump is a 60 gallon and it was 280.00 with 3 different departments in it...

I dont have a calcium reactor as of yet...you can dose the tank until you need a calcium reactor!!only if you are building a reef tank......also the Tune are great...but the seio 2600 is also good and alot less expensive...79.00 a pump I have 3 of them....I have 2 coralife skimmers rated at 250 gallon tank they where 139.00 a piece...I have them hanging on the sump In 2 different departments

I do have a coralife light that was 1000.00 it has 3 400 watt mh and all the atinics built in...including the moonlights...

just trying to save you money...

When I put the prices in, i rounded up and inflated each of them a bit.

Thanks for the advice on the wiper.

Keep the suggestions coming!

Ryan

I'm almost at the end of a similar journey. Check this link if you're interested in comparing.

I'd consider a better skimmer then a RS250. You could use a much cheaper return pump (I'm using a Quiet 1 6000 and it works great) and use that money saved to upgrade your skimmer. Otherwise we've made some similar choices.

Re: Advice on new 210G in-wall setup ... PLEASE COMMENT!

I got my 210 for less, but thats not a bad price.

I would skip the sea swirls.

Not sure why the Wahoo for the return. Its more pump than the AGA overflows can handle. I use a pan world 150.

I would make a sump from an non-rr glass tank. Much cheaper.

I use 3x250W XM10Ks on icecaps and 2x160W VHO actinics, but your choice isn't bad at all.

I used to have a UV on my old tank, but not on my new tank. Kinda wonder why I had it in the first pace. Ozone is another possibility to serve the same purpose.

I am using a Deltec AP851, if the budget had allowed me to, I would have gotten the 902. H&S are also very good, but there are others also.

I dont run a ca reactor, but then I dose, so I understand your want to automate.

I run a CL. A Dart or 2, maybe with a OM 4 or 8-way would give you good random flow. A couple of tunze gives lots of flow, but you can't direct it as well.
