advice please on eheim 1262 pump

I am going to change out my mag 12 pump in my 29 gal glass sump aquarium. I have it plumbed to pvc 1 1/4 in pipe to 90 gal DT but much too much vibration which leads to way too much noise in the pipes and stand. I am thinking of buying the eheim 1262 which puts out about the same 900 gph at zero head pressure. With the five to six foot head pressure my mag 12 was putting out about 6-700 gph.

Does anyone have any experience w/ the 1262 in a relatively small sump? I'm worried I'll end up w/ the same vibration noise. However, if this happens I'm going to try to have 2 lines come off the pump and use flexible tubing which hopefully will cut the noise.

Thanks for any advice/past experiences. I hate to own 2 pumps and have to get a third!!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Would you mind giving me some info as to how your return plumbing is set up? Thanks

It looks something like this ;)

I have mine dialed back 50% and I got some vibration.

I should have got the 1260 instead of the 1262.

The 1260 and 1262 motor blocks are exactly the same so all you would need to do is a buy a 1260 volute for less than $20

Though Eheim makes very good pumps, Playa-1's "Union Coupler" is what most likely makes his pump quieter. If his Union Coupler is made of silicone tubing then it will act as a vibration dampener\isolator. Also another trick to quiet down vibration from a pump is to place a rubber type material under them to act as another vibration dampener. I used a rubber type "mouse pad" under mine. And yes my pump is submersed in water and runs "inside" the sump with no problems.

I too have a 1262 and it's probably the quietest part of my tank. The skimmer is probably twice as loud. I've just got pvc coming out of the top to a T and then 2 of the cheap home depot pvc ball valves to control the flow to each return and it seems perfectly quiet to me. Like I said though, my skimmer pump is just awful with noise, so that makes everything else in the house seem quiet.

It's a very quiet and good pump, BUT before you buy a new pump... try this. If you have PVC from the Mag to the return then consider swapping out the section connecting to the pump with some spa flex. Maybe a foot section of it to help absorb the vibrations. PVC tends to transfer slight vibrations to other parts in the tank causing it to amplify. Also, PVC makes it so stiff that the pump vibrates because it's not leveled and therefore transfers to the sump. Consider also the mouse pad material idea as well.

Oh yeah, the 1262 is a very strong pump. Unless you have it tee'd off to other things, why not run a smaller pump? Less electricity and likeliness of noise and vibrations.

95% of my tank is run with black spa flex. While it does help, a silicone isolator really would work best on vibration. It effectively dampens the vibration transfer by a much larger margin as long as it is the very soft kind. My tank is so silent the only time I can hear it even a little is around 4AM when everything is whisper quiet inside and outside the house.

Thanks for the ideas. Wha

A piece of silicone tubing that slips over and goes between the 2 hard pvc pipes. It will dampen and absorb the vibration between the 2 hard lines.

do you have a solid source for this info? cause i got a 1260 and wish i had got a 1262. reason i ask this is the 1260 consumes 65W and the 1262 consumes 80W

I have a 1262 for the return on my 120g. It also feeds gfo and carbon reactors. It sits on a $2 silicone mouse pad from staples, and is connected to the rest of the plumbing with ~ 12" of vinyl tubing. It is dead silent.
