Hi All,
I couldn't find an "introduce yourself" section so I thought I'd pop this here. Feel free to move it if needed. Down to the Advice, I have been out of the marine game now for around 5 years so I was wondering what's changed? I'm thinking if setting my old tank up again as a Fowlr rather than a full reef which is what I had before. I'm just after some pointers really and any updates to any new husbandry or methods. Here's a pic of my old tank " if I've attached it correctly?"
Thanks

Welcome back Paul! I really do not think much has changed in the last 5 years, newer equipment and updated equipment. Here in the states one thing in particular I have noticed though are fish diseases. It seems as though every fish has flukes and velvet/ich in my area. I don't know what your QT protocol is but I will always recommend people to qt. I'm sure you will have no issues keeping a FOWLR tank. Again, welcome back to the Hobby!

Thanks Justin, I normally qt for 6 weeks if possible but even that doesn't guarantee success. I think stress is the biggest cause of disease in marines. Are people still balling or using calcium reactors or is there a new kid on the block now for sps systems?

Both are still being used no different than it was 5 years ago haha. There are still the debates of what's the best lighting, who makes better pumps, etc. Curious Paul, how long is your FOWLR tang going to last before the SPS bug gets you again and it becomes a reef again lol?

Lol don't say that, it's true though the bug soon comes back doesn't it

I must admit I've always misses it but life gets in the way and all that. I've still got my old tank and my ATI although I sold my doser and vortech's

I completely understand, between work and kids sports, I have no time. Summertime is especially busy with soccer tournaments for my son. Fortunately, my wife has the sps bug so she does a lot of the work too.

Ah, very clever..... include the spouse lol to be honest it's the time factor that's making me consider Fowlr rather than a full reef again
