advice

My advice would be find a way to restrict the tubing. To test out if this will make it quieter just pinch the tubing with your finger. The amount you have to pinch (restrict) the air going into the air tube is dependent on the size of your return pump. Don't completely cut off the air going in or it will create a direct siphon and make a flushing noise every 3 to 10 seconds. On the other hand don't let so much air get sucked through the air tube that it makes a ton of noise. If you get it just right there will be very little noise or if you can't get it you can just re-plumb it so it uses a better design like mentioned above. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

after a couple of years with no fish tanks in the house i baught a brand new tank and am sarting from scratch. i baught a 54gal cube reef ready. last night was start night. so far all is well. my question is that in the baffold (where the tank drains refills) there is a piece of clear tubeing that comes from the drain pvc tubeing. its makeing this annoying sucking noise, any ideas how to quiet it down? i may just be having a brain fart but its been awhile since i went through a set up.
thanks

I think I can visualize your current drain setup. It sounds like a Glass-holes overflow with 90's coming out the back. Can you move that piece of clear tubing up and down? If so, you can "tune" the drain so it makes less noise.

I have the 60g marineland tank that is set up identical to yours, and have not found an adequate solution to the noise yet. I will try pinching the air tube as mentioned, but I'm not very hopeful. I think we'll just have to live with it...
